Fantastic experience: On two occasions over the last decade, I have received letters from Pettinato and Associates telling me that they had located some unclaimed property in my name and offering to process the recovery for a fee (payable only if and when the property was recovered). I researched the firm online and decided to give them a try. I'm glad I did. While the first case was straightforward, the second was way more complicated and Scott's intimate knowledge of how the California Unclaimed Property Department worked was invaluable. I recommend Scott and his firm without reservation.
Negative experience: I don't understand the value add of using this company for my unclaimed property. I only received a letter from Pettinato & Associates *after* I had already begun the claim process myself directly with the state. My claim is not complicated--why would I pay someone else 10% to still have me provide the same info I submitted directly? I saw another review saying the person got their claim in 6 months using this company, but that is the state's noted processing time anyway. I really don't get it.
Hi Courtney, Our company mailed a notice to you because we had obtained data from the state that indicated the assets remained available to claim. The states do their best to provide reliable information, but the reality is there is little incentive for them to provide the level of service and accountability that we do. This will remain the case as long as states continue to earn interest on unclaimed assets in their possession with no requirement to share any of it with rightful owners. We recognize that everyone places a different value on their time. Following are some of the ways our clients benefit by working with our office: Our firm is usually the first to notify claimants of their entitlement to unclaimed assets. Brandon, our fees never exceed 10%. Additionally, our fees are paid to us directly by the state as they fund our claims to ensure we never receive more than 10% of the amount returned to the claimant. Following are the most common reasons why refunds end up being less than expected: 1. There is another reported owner, or heir, entitled to the balance. This makes the most sense since you received approximately 50% of the total claim amount. Please feel free to contact our office so we can provide further information related to your specific case. 2. Does your claim involve shares of stock? Many of our claims involve securities and it is customary for the state to fund the cash component of the claim before funding the shares of stock. In these cases, the initial check that clients receive is considered partial funding of their claim. Typically, the stock comprises most of the claim value but takes additional time to fund. Again, we can confirm if this is the case if we hear from you. 3. It’s possible for another state agency to “intercept” all, or a portion, of the assets if they determine you owe them money (i.e., Franchise Tax Board, Child Support Services, DMV, etc.). This information is deemed private, so the state agencies do not inform us when this occurs. I encourage you to contact our office if you think this could be the case so we can verify if a portion of your claim was intercepted and by which state agency.
Fantastic experience: Scott is professional, responsive and highly competent. My case was complex in that it involved two different states and unclaimed funds in excess of $40k. Scott could not have been more helpful. He was also the first of many to contact me about reclaiming these funds (being first counts and says a lot as well). I basically just did everything he told me to do to a 'T' and then mustered up some patience and waited. And then, right in the timeframe Scott had outlined for me, the funds were released and now I'm sitting on found money. This is a guy who does what he says he is going to do and that is a rare thing these days. If you are in a similar situation as mine I highly recommend Pettinato & Associates. Fantastic experience: My husband got a letter in the mail about 6 months ago from Pettinato and Associates saying he had unclaimed property and they were going to help him get it. They have you sign papers and confirm your identity of course. Also they send you a letter letting you know the process. We didn't know if he would really get his money or not but he just received his check today. Thank you!
Negative experience: This place is a joke. I called them because I received a letter and it was skeptical I left a message and ask them if they were going to call me back to be a little slow on their speaking and leaving the number I left my number at a normal speed that anybody can write it down. Further explained that I screen my calls so please leave a detailed message with your number so I can easily write it down I received two phone calls I know they're not dumb and they're far from stupid so apparently they just don't care. I hope this helps everyone out who's reading this don't pay these clowns nothing you don't have to if you're from California go to the website California unclaimed funds and you'll find a form to fill out you can do it all by yourself without paying anybody anything it's not complicated then you can fill it out cuz it's really easy you just put your your name and your address in the box and it pulls up and then you just go from there I don't know how to explain it to you but don't pay these clowns nothing I would not leave a nasty review if the person didn't talk real fast in the message and her tone and her attitude was very unprofessional. They know you need them so they treat you like your I don't even want to say the word, you get it. Update, today's January-9th 2024. This attorney called me trying to justify their wrong they had plenty of time she spoke a lot of words but when it came to her phone number she spit it out real fast everything was clear except for her phone number she did exactly what I asked her not to do but as I said if you live in Pennsylvania or California there's a website that you can go on to that's unclaimed properties in California all you got to do is go in that search for property fill your name out it's free you can even call I take a long time and get somebody on the phone but it's better than paying them to what do what would take you it took me literally minutes to fill the paperwork out and I mean minutes my name my address and search and it came up don't pay these clowns nothing they're a bunch of crooks I know you're going to get the email Scott that's what happens when you people do what you do but you're a smart guy you're in the business to makeand that's what you're doing you're making money off other people's ignorance or laziness and I don't mean ignorant in a derogatory way it falls into the category of just not knowing now you know so if you read this you can do it all by yourself you don't need this attorney to do nothing for you at the worst case scenario you'll have to print it out and a PDF file and but you still don't have to pay anything and what's crazy I found more money that was there but because these guys are so money hungry they didn't want to pay the they didn't want to do the extra work for the of the 10% that they would have they're not going to go away out of their way to help you when are they going to get is $13, don't use these guys my opinion. I think this falls under my amendment freedom of speech I know you can listen to your outgoing call Scott you should listen to them and listen to how she's leaving messages you did a much better job than she did that goes to show that you value your clients or your potential clients but you're hired help they don't. One last thing I was just asking for a phone number and your representative couldn't even get that right I wish I can forward this message to you but I think I deleted it already but I know your technology you can listen to it you should do your research and check it out yourself don't take my word for it everyone else has to but you can do that I ain't got any reason to lie

Answering machines typically allow a limited amount of time to record a message so we do our best to provide details in an efficient manner. I think our representative was trying to accommodate your request for a detailed message while knowing that you were screening her call. She ended up sounding rushed before she felt your answering machine might cut her off. We’ve all been there. Still, we need to be better in your case. Negative experience: This has to be the worst companies to re-claim anything from. I lost a check 7 months ago and it's been a non stop battle to reclaim my money. I've went to email several people, sent multiple documents via email, tried mailing, but everything is wrong in their eyes. I'm at my wits end and feel like it's not even worth the effort anymore. I'm tired of getting the same document resigned signed and notarized just for it to get rejected.
Floyd, you and I have determined that you accidentally mailed our completed claim form to a different service provider (not our office, as intended). Naturally, the other company could not accept a claim form with our firm’s name on it, so they requested that you redo the paperwork on their claim form. Hence, your anxiety and frustration. We do our best to prepare clients for the fact that it is normal to receive notices from other companies after our firm has already commenced recovery efforts. We realize that our competition will manage to divert some of our business by being second, third or even fourth to the party; nevertheless, continuing to be FIRST serves our clients best and happens to be what we’re good at. I totally understand your frustration; however, your negative review has everything to do with your mailing miscue…not our company. Negative experience: I recieved this in the mail. And If you use this service you are a sucker. For unclaimed property, all you have to go to the state that you think has money or property that is owed to you. Every state has a search under the gov website of that state, for unclaimed money aka property. Once you find your unclaimed property, all you have to do is put in the information of who you are, basically proof, and then they will send the check to you. You do not need this ridicilous service. When you can do it all for free.

To my delight (and surprise) six months later I got check from the State of California. Pettinato lived up to its word! I would use them again.
Negative experience: This company contacted ME 6 months ago, advising me that they have found unclaimed assets that belong to me, I was unaware of this money, I wasn’t even thinking about any money being owed to me. So by nature I did whatever I could to get this “money back” like providing my SSN and notarizing a document… they told me it will take 6 months for the claim to be approved. So i was under the impression the money was mine and they did research to prove it was… otherwise why notify someone that they are getting money? Six months later you send me a letter saying additional documentation is required because there is a SSN mismatch and it turns out they money really belonged to someone else at A DIFFERENT APARTMENT, Imagine if I really needed that money? Like why sell someone a dream, especially involving money? I was better off not even knowing anything about this. & All you have to say is “Well there other people with the same name ma’am” like okay and that’s why I provided my SSN 6 months ago! I’m so frustrated with this company and they are terrible at communicating to say the least. If you get a notice from them don’t even give your business to them save time and go straight to the source. Plus in the end they are only trying to “help you recover your funds” so they can get a cut too. Pathetic.
Danielle, I’m sorry your claim was denied. We’ve had a chance to talk a couple of times now and I understand your frustration. Although your name and address in Sacramento indicated you could be the rightful owner of the assets, the State later determined that someone else with your same name was owed the refund. These types of denials are rare and difficult to anticipate. Furthermore, I agree that six months is a long time to wait to find out you are not the rightful owner. Unfortunately, this is how long the State is permitted by law to respond to claims. Thanks for taking the time to talk with me. I apologize for the inconvenience.

In general, claims are taking a bit longer to fund than usual because of COVID 19; nevertheless, most of our claims submitted during May 2020 have funded. Fantastic experience: First things first, Scott and his team are experts at what they do. They get results! Scott contacted me regarding an unclaimed property report. I had received several of these solicitations from different firms but something told me to contact Scott. I had tried to reclaim my property with no luck. (a waste of my time.) Scott knows how and whom to contact to get results. He is very well connected. He was also VERY good at keeping me in the loop and promptly returning calls and emails. Scott initially sent a letter about the funds and then walked us through all the steps necessary for us to get them back from the state. It took great patience on his part and on our part.
