Negative experience: Called in for a free consultation, the phone was picked up to dead air, I said “hello” and the man responded “this is Mike.” I asked for assistance regarding a small claims case briefly describing the issue and he responded “don’t do that,” immediately hanging up afterwards. By far the rudest and worst customer service I have had over the phone. What a laughing stock of a company.

Fantastic experience: My family-law attorney hired O'Connell and Associates twice - once to support my divorce and a second time to support a motion to gain custody of my minor children. I'm pleased to share my experiences and recommend Mike. When I suspected my then wife was having an affair, my family-law attorney suggested Mike and his team determine if my suspicions were correct. Mike and his team did surveillance of her activities and kept me posted throughout the process. In a short time, Mike determined my wife not only had an affair with her boss but also had a second affair after her boss ended the first relationship. When Mike showed me the evidence he and his team gathered, I was astonished. First, I was amazed at how close he and his team got to my wife and her affair partner, and my wife and friends - as they openly talked about her affairs in social settings. I clearly understood why my attorney recommended Mike - he and his team are exceptional at what they do. To do surveillance so close without being detected requires someone at the top of his profession. That's Mike. Second, the evidence gathered went beyond my expectations. Yes, Mike not only had evidence to prove my wife had had two affairs during the marriage but Mike got other evidence that painted a portrait of a woman gone off the rails. Mike had evidence of my wife bragging about how her strategy in the divorce was deny, deny, deny and her saying "my husband could show me a video of me having sex with another guy and I wouldn't admit it was me!" Mike and his team also gathered numerous examples of my wife drinking and driving, including her driving with open containers. In one instance, Mike and his team followed her to the supermarket. She emerged with a case of beer. After picking up her affair partner - who was engaged to another woman - to go to a bar to meet their coworkers, they cracked open a couple of cans of beer and drove north on the interstate. Mike had pictures and video showing her driving and drinking. On this and all other occasions, Mike documented the number of drinks she had and the times of each drink. He also had video of her driving impaired, weaving in and out of lanes. And Mike had evidence that my wife's best friend was also engaging in less than wifely behavior. When my attorney presented this evidence to my wife's attorney, she decided to negotiate a settlement that was very beneficial to me. My wife went from offering me visitation with my 3 minor children 6 night per month to agreeing to joint legal and shared custody (50/50). She also agreed to give up all claims to my substantial retirement. After about a year, my then ex-wife made a plan to move my three minor children to rural Maryland, over an hour away. She informed my 9-year old daughter she would be moving to Maryland and would not see daddy as much - and my 9-year promptly told me. Again, my attorney advised hiring Mike to get evidence that she was planning this secret move. Mike and his team followed her to Maryland to document where she was planning to move, who she was planning to move in with, and do the requisite background checks on the latest guy ( who she met three months earlier). We were able to use this evidence to get an emergency motion to keep the children in school in Northern Virginia. Next Mike got evidence to document my ex-wife violated the emergency order by taking the children to Maryland on school nights - we used Mike's evidence to have her held in contempt. And Mike and his team gathered evidence that my ex-wife was leaving our minor children (including a 3-year old) unattended in the residence while she and the new guy went out to the camper each night. Mike's report and compelling testimony were key factors in me gaining full custody of my 3 minor children, getting child suport, and having the court order my ex-wife to reimburse legal costs associated with her secret plan to tear the children away from me. I stongly recommend Mike and his team for any investigative services.

Fantastic experience: I contacted Mike the owner when I found out my wife may be cheating on me. The next day he had someone tail her and caught her red handed. She had no idea! I’ve never seen quicker and more effective work. He had pictures and put together a comprehensive report that laid out all of the details. This will be extremely valuable to me when I Divorce her in court. I highly recommend his service. They are discreet and professional.

Fantastic experience: Great investigator. Helped me by not only having an initial consult to truly figure out my needs... but also kept it very real and professional with me. Yes, it is costly... but it is worth it. I needed to find truth and Mike helped me find it. I was provided with a thorough report... as well as truthful testimony in court. Throughout the investigation he communicated with me via phone calls & text. I am grateful for the services provided! No one ever "wants" to hire an investigator, however when you NEED to, O'Connell & Associates is the one to hire.

Negative experience: As others have mentioned, you will only hear what you want to hear-- that is, if you hear anything at all. Be prepared to do your own investigating. your own calling, your own hassling to hear any response. Please don't waste your money or time. I trusted that Mike would actually do something, but there was no actual proof he had done any work. After multiple texts he then told me he had used up all of the hours. Unbelievable. Lesson learned.

Fantastic experience: O'Connell and Associates has been an absolute God send throughout this process. They are professional, responsive, direct, and strategic about what they do. They do not let you waste money and spend a tremendous amount of time advising you as to how to effectively manage through the process. Their input and direction has been priceless to me. They have been a constant source of support and strength. They treated me like a member of the family and I will forever be indebted to them for their professionalism, compassion, support, and their effective and high quality of work. They got what I needed to advised me how to navigate effectively and in the most cost effective manner through a very challenging time in my life. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Negative experience: Please think twice about hiring Mr O'Connell. He is good at telling you what you want to hear and then produces no results. He was very unresponsive when I needed him to look into things that were time sensitive. He still owes me the report he promised to provide after many weeks. It is now too late to use it for the intended purpose. After the money was expended he became very short with me and rude. Save yourself a lot of money and go elsewhere. Also read the fine print as he says the "retainer" is non-refundable.

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend Mike and Kim for their professional help they gave during a very difficult time for me. Two days after I told my ex-husband to leave our home, I was on the phone to Mike. By that evening, he already had surveillance on my ex and his new girlfriend. During the next two weeks, Mike kept me updated with everything my ex-husband and his gf did, with constant update phone calls with their whereabouts and movements. Mike also gave me endless advice on how to handle things and gave me many options. He always answered my calls or at least, called right back. But mostly, it was Mike and Kim's advice on my reactions to their updates. They talked to me for hours and gave me great advice on how to act, as they have years of experience of these kind of men. Again, I highly recommend their services and feel I have found two new friends!

Fantastic experience: If you are reading this review, you more than likely have that horrible feeling in the pit of your stomach. This feeling is truly uncomfortable both emotionally and physically. I can tell you the ONLY remedy for this feeling is TRUTH and this is where you should be thankful that O'Connell & Associates exist. I found this company the day that my wife left for a business trip in Bethesda. I had that terrible feeling above because of a growing suspicion I felt between my wife and her boss over the past few months. Before finding O'Connell & Associates, I made calls to about 3-4 other PI's in the area...some didn't pick up/call back and the others I felt did not conduct themselves in enough of a professional manner to trust with such a personal and serious matter. I finally reached out to O'Connell's and had a consultation with Kim, who thoroughly explained the services they provided while also being mindful and considerate with helping me deal with the stress of the whole situation. I felt that I finally found the right person for the job and entrusted this company with this very personal situation. Over the next 2 days of investigation, Mike and Kim provided excellent coverage while keeping me constantly informed throughout the entire investigation. The ability for Mike and Kim to blend in as a married couple in a crowd allowed the team to clearly observe interactions and capture the evidence needed to uncover the whole truth, good or bad. They got the evidence I desperately needed to settle my court case and gave me my peace of mind. The owners are extremely experienced and they have great investigators working with them. Discreet and efficient.

Negative experience: The company, will charge your card and then not perform any services for you. The owner is rude and very short with his client. When you ask for details from work he agreed to do for you or an itemized bill he will ignore you or tell you that you are out of money with no way for you to verify what he did with the first $1,500. Other reviews online say the same. Four month agreement with this company and I never received anything. Save your money and go with someone else who cares about the work they do and the importance that their service provides. After all hiring an investigator is a big step and the importance is extremely high. All I can say is this company is fraudulent with a bully on the other end of the phone.
